Phyno Biography
Phyno, whose birth name is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, has been wooing many with his music since he popped on the music scene over a decade. The Nigerian singer, rapper, and record producer combines his native Igbo and English in his songs.
Born in the eastern part of Nigeria, Phyno moved to Lagos, where he thought music would get more traction and where the money was. However, the move is not one he regrets, as he is today a buzzing voice in Nigeria’s and Africa’s music orbit.
Growing up, Phyno dreamed of becoming a pilot. He was told, instead, to look into the world of medicine and become a doctor. His interest in music developed when he was in secondary school. His adopted stage name, “Phyno” – a pronunciation of the first few letters in “phenomenal” – was given to him by his buddies back in secondary school.
Phyno started recording his debut album in 2012, but it wasn’t until 214 that he completed it. The project featured notable names on the Nigerian music scene, including Flavour, Mr. Raw (whom Phyno confesses admiring a lot), Olamide, Omawumi, and the now defunct P-Sqaure.
Real Name
Phyno’s real name is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike. Translated from the Igbo, the names Chibuzor and Azubuike mean “God is the way” and “back is strength,” respectively.
Origin
The songster is of Igbo and also enjoys rapping in his native language. He was born in Anambra state but grew up in Enugu, one of the Igbo-speaking states in Eastern Nigeria.
He might be counted among musicians who got into the industry early. However, his career began not as a rapper or as a singer, but as a producer, in 2003.
Childhood Pictures
Does a person’s childhood give clues to what he might be in the future? Some peeps would say yes, and others would say a resounding no!
At any rate, it is doubtful that the tiny skinny fair-complexioned kid would also transform into a fantastic musical success in a short time. Nevertheless, you can check out some throwback pictures of Phyno below.
Family
Siblings
He is the fourth of five children. So, in other words, he has four siblings. But unfortunately, nothing is known about Phyno’s siblings.
Children
Although Phyno isn’t married right now, he indicated in an interview that he is available and single. Having children doesn’t require marriage. The question of whether Phyno has kids has so been raised frequently. The Igbo rapper currently doesn’t have any children.
Parents
Mr. & Mrs. Azubuike are Phyno’s parents. Many of their details are private. However, Phyno has already uploaded a photo of himself with his mother. All that Phyno has ever stated about his father is that he disapproved of his choice to pursue a career as an artist.
Twin Brother
Twins are two siblings born at the same time by the same parents. So in that sense, then Phyno actually has no twin brother. But his lookalikes are out there.
A year ago, news popped up online about the discovery of the Nigeria songster’s “twin.” Fans of the musician were impressed by the similarity in physical features between him and another guy – his “twin.”
Phyno himself was impressed and took pictures with the stranger, one of which you can see below.
Lifestyle
Cars
In his garage, Phyno keeps a number of expensive vehicles, including a Rolls Royce Phantom automobile valued at over 200 million Naira, a Range Rover Sport vehicle valued at over 85 million Naira, a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder vehicle valued at over 72 million Naira, a Bentley GT Coupe vehicle valued at over 70 million Naira, and a Toyota Avalon vehicle valued at over 11 million Naira, a Polaris Slingshot that costs roughly 7 million Naira, among other luxury cars.
House
Unquestionably, one of the most wealthy musicians in Nigeria is Phyno. He now has several houses spread around the country. He owns a duplex in Lagos’s Chevy View Estate on Chevron Drive. According to estimates, this duplex is valued at roughly 170 million Naira. In addition to this home, the singer also owns a mansion in Enugu State, the location of his birth.
Net Worth
Phyno is doing very well as an artist. His interest transcends music, though. As a result, he might be counted among the richest musicians in Nigeria, with a net worth running into hundreds of millions (Naira). To give you an idea of his wealth, he has a Rolls Royce worth 100 million. Phyno’s current estimated net worth is a staggering $11 million. He now ranks among Nigeria’s top 10 wealthiest musicians as a result.
Girlfriend
Phyno is one of those artists that love to keep their private lives private. Whether or not he has a girlfriend is not known.
Record Label
Nigerian-based Penthauze Music is a record company. Penthauze, the label’s headlining act, and rapper Phyno, featured Runtown, Shugaboi, and Flipside on its 2011 lineup. 2014 saw the signing of singer Storm Rex, who became the label’s lone female talent. The song “Camera Out” served as the label’s official self-declaration (2011). However, Runtown quit the label in 2013. Under the label, Phyno released his first studio album, “No Guts No Glory.” The label has gone on to house other talents, Cheque, Rhatti, and Nuno.
Awards
To many out there, awards are a testament to how well an artiste does creatively. While we do not subscribe to the same view, we can confirm that Phyno has won several awards as a singer and rapper.
He was nominated for The Headies three years in a row – between 2013 and 2016 – for songs like “Shutdown,” “Dope Money” (Ft. Olamide), and “Eziokwu,” among others. In addition, he won The Headies for songs like “Parcel” (Best rap single) and “Ghost Mode” (Best collabo).
