Timaya Biography
Nigerian singer and composer Inetimi Timaya Odon, better known by his stage name Timaya, was born on August 15, 1980. He is a native of Odi in the South-South Nigerian state of Bayelsa. In honor of his roots, to which he has given much back, he is affectionately referred to as the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa. Timaya became one of Nigeria’s most well-known performers by fusing dancehall, hip-hop, and soca with Nigerian music.
Timaya, dubbed the king of Afro-Soca music, is renowned for his remarkable fusion of Afro-Caribbean/Dancehall music with other musical genres. He is also a signed artist to DM (Dem Mama) Records Limited, which he founded. He has received numerous prestigious honors and accolades for his work, including four Headies Awards, two AFRIMMA Awards, a Nigeria Music Award, and an NEA Award.
Family
Parents
Father
The singer’s father was a banker, and that is all that is known about him. The singer’s father disapproved of his music career and preferred that his son follow in his father’s footsteps and work in banking. Timaya entered the university to study banking and finance, but his performance on the first exam was horrible, and he left in the first semester of his first year.
Mother
As his hit song “Plantain Boy” attempts to explain, his mother was a trader focused primarily on plantains. Before Timaya received his high school diploma, his mother arranged for him to visit Lagos with his older brother and sister.
Siblings
Brother(s)
Timaya has stated that he is the fifteenth of his father’s fifteen children. However, there are little details about his siblings.
Sister(s)
Emomoemi Odon, also called “Momo Floxy,” is the only female sibling of Timaya that is publicly known. She graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with the help of her famous brother, who also provided her with a lot of financial aid.
Child
Timaya is a Nigerian musician who has never shied away from expressing his love for his children. Four children born to Timaya from three different women make him a proud father. The names of Timaya’s children are Emmanuella, Gracey, Emmanuel, and Maya. He had Maya with Dunnie Onasanya and Emmanuella with Tamar. Gracey was born in July 2015, and Emmanuella in May 2014. Maya was supposedly born in May 2020, while Emmanuel was born in July 2018.
Girlfriend
Timaya’s relationship with Empress Njamah, a Nigerian actress, is the first known to the general public. However, the singer later acknowledged that he had dated an unnamed woman four years older than her before she came along. Empress, who didn’t have a child for the artist, somehow didn’t make the list of the musician’s baby moms. Even though it was brief, their relationship—and especially their breakup—kept the media buzzing at the time because it was Timaya’s first publicly acknowledged relationship. Although he has gone on to date other women since then, only they were very discreet relationships. He probably learned that keeping one’s private life away from the public was the way to go, especially as a widely-known public figure.
Lifestyle
Net Worth
Timaya is an A-list performer in the Nigerian music industry and has worked in the entertainment sector for more than ten years. He has signed some enticing endorsement deals, and his estimated net worth is $10 million.
Cars
Timaya, like any other renowned Nigerian celebrity, is a car enthusiast. His garage apparently houses a collection of expensive vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG that costs 55 million naira, a Bentley Continental GT valued at 72 million naira, a Range Rover Sport 2013 bought for 17 million naira, a Range Rover Sport 2016 acquired for 19 million naira, a Mercedes-Benz GLE that costs 25 million naira, and a Porsche 911 acquired for 42 million naira.
House
The reported 500 million naira value of Timaya’s Lekki home serves as a reminder that the man is a music businessman. The house has a private studio, a pool, furniture, and a beautiful interior. It is also very spacious.
Record Label
Timaya established his own record company, DM Records Limited. He developed artists such as Patoranking and Runtown using this platform. In 2017, he signed King Perryy, a promising Dancehall/Afro-Fusion artist, to his DM Records banner.
