Baba-Ahmed Challenges Tinubu’s Mandate; Says It “Assaults Nigeria’s Constitution”

Labour Party’s (LP) Vice Presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed that Bola Tinubu’s mandate continues to violate the Nigerian constitution. He said that the “Certificate of Return” given to Tinubu is a dud check that will eventually bounce, no matter how long it took while speaking on Arise Television.

According to Baba-Ahmed, most of the country’s election results were fraudulent, as evidenced by the numerous instances of foul play, and they should be considered as such. He stated:

“We’re not just talking about losing the election. We’re now talking about the constitutional breach and where you have a constitutional breach, there is no president-elect. There is a clear interpretation of section 134 of the constitution. And there is the INEC’s interpretation of 134. Now, I’m going to hold on to that. I will stick to that and I will deliver victory on that. By that idea, I tell you with all humility, we do not have a president-elect in Nigeria today. What Alhaji Bola Tinubu is holding is a dud certificate, a dud cheque. If there are no funds in that account, it will bounce. You cannot swear in a president whose certificate of return assaults the constitution because the constitution is the platform on which the presidency rests and when that has been violated, it cannot stand,”

Given that he(Tinubu) did not receive 25% of the vote in the Federal Capital Territory, he pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) not to support a “illegality,” maintaining that it remains unconstitutional (FCT).

The LP’s Peter Obi’s running mate argued that the law required each candidate to receive 25% of the vote, which Tinubu allegedly fell short of. If Tinubu is sworn in on May 29, according to Baba-Ahmed’s interpretation of section 134, there will be a violation of the Nigerian constitution. He said,

“He remains an unconstitutional president, whether you violate the Constitution, use force, or whatever to install him.”

Baba-Ahmed claimed that even though he does not fully trust the Nigerian legal system, this is not a good enough excuse for his party and “every concerned Nigerian” not to file a legal challenge against Tinubu’s election and reclaim their “stolen mandate.”
