Basketmouth Announces He Will Retire From Comedy After 5 Years

Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name Basketmouth and a well-known comedian in Nigeria, has declared his intention to end his career in comedy in five years. The stand-up comic made this revelation in an interview with Hitz1039fm that was posted on their Instagram account on Tuesday.

Basketmouth, in the interview, said he had been “floating” for the past six years, but he brought his team together and they had a little chat. He told them that he intends to hang up the microphone after five years. The comedian stated that he had made enough and has been “committed to the art” for a pretty long time to want to take a break or even quit.

Bright said that had always been the plan he had for himself. At age 50, which is going to be five years from now, he said he would want to be focused more on movies, series, and concert production, which he does incredibly well, as seen from Asa’s 2022 Lagos concert and Adekunle Gold’s December concert, which he put together.

Okpocha went ahead to say that his quitting the comedy scene professionally does not mean he stops cracking jokes or honoring performance invitations. He said he would do his thing on the stage every now and then, but it would be pro bono. Check out the excerpts from the radio interview below.
