Desmond Elliot Wins Surulere Constituency, Retains Assembly Seat in Lagos

Nollywood actor and politician Desmond Elliot has emerged victorious in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, retaining his seat in the Surulere Constituency. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Elliot, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner of the election held on Saturday.

Elliot won the Surulere Constituency 1 assembly seat with a margin of over 10,000 votes. Following his win, the actor and his supporters took to the streets to celebrate his re-election. Festus Keyamo, the spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, congratulated Desmond Elliot on his victory, remarking that he “prevailed over these children,” referring to Elliot’s younger opponent, 28-year-old actor Olumide Oworu.

Desmond Elliot and his wife were pictured casting their votes in Surulere, Lagos, during the March 18 governorship election. The actor’s victory was also reflected in the governorship election at his polling unit, where Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emerged as the winner.

The 2023 election in Nigeria has seen a surge in celebrity participation, with notable figures such as Funke Akindele and Desmond Elliot running for office. With Elliot’s win in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, he will return for another term, representing the Surulere Constituency and continuing his political career.
