Elders Of Arewa Rebuke Adebanjo For His Anti-Tinubu Remarks

The head of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has come under fire from a group of northern elders operating under the banner of Arewa New Agenda (ANN) for saying northerners will fail the All Progressives Congress Presidential (APC) Presidential flag-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The organization stated on February 9, 2023, that “memory loss due to old age” may have harmed the nonagenarian’s ability to make sound decisions.

This is in response to Adebanjo’s statement that Tinubu won’t receive the support of northerners in the upcoming presidential election. The Afenifere leader reportedly warned that the North would let down the APC presidential candidate in the February 25 election while addressing the Labour Party Presidential rally in Abeokuta. However, in response, ANN urged Adebanjo to cease using the Yoruba tradition of respect to further his petty, arrogant, and self-serving political vendetta.

Senator Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi, the group’s convener and leader, said this during a news conference in Abuja. To define an agenda for defending the interests of the North, ANN comprises academics, current and past lawmakers, diploma holders, technocrats, development practitioners, women’s and youth leaders, politicians, artisans, traders, and farmers, is positioning itself.

“We wish to state that probably because of his age, as an elder statesman, his memory has started to fail him; when has he become a spokesman for the North? For his information, the North has never failed to keep to its promise; when the North makes a covenant, the North keeps to it,” said MoAllahyidi.
