Funke Akindele Reacts To Polls Loss; Deletes Politics-related Posts From Instagram Page

Funke Akindele, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for deputy governor in Lagos State, has removed political and PDP-related photos from her Instagram feed. Akindele’s action comes hours after the 2023 gubernatorial elections took place in Lagos.

According to Monday’s checks by media outlets, the posts that were viewable on her page’s 15.7 million followers were mainly advertisements for her movies and other personal updates.
In the election held on Saturday, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the incumbent governor and candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated Akindele and her running mate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran alias Jandor.

Reports had earlier been shared that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission Sanwo-Olu polled 762,134 votes. The Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour got 312,329 votes, and Jandor came a distant third with 62,449 votes.

In the latest development in the highly anticipated Lagos State gubernatorial election, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate Funke Akindele lost her polling unit to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amid the election’s heightened tensions, Akindele, a well-known Nollywood actress turned politician, cast her ballot in Ita Aro Plaza. Lagos citizens and the entire nation keenly monitored the Lagos State governorship election since it was primarily considered a litmus test for the INEC’s credibility after its bogus presidential election performance.

The outcome of the governorship race will probably have a significant impact on the state’s future and the balance of power between the APC and its opposition parties. Although Akindele and the PDP suffered a setback by losing her voting unit, her present stance on politics and how this will impact the party is uncertain.
