Seyi Makinde is gains support from the Labour Party as governor of Oyo State

Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been endorsed by the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo State as their candidate for the March 11 gubernatorial election. At a press conference in Ibadan on Sunday, LP Chairman Sadiq Atayese made the announcement.

Mr. Atayese claims that the state’s working committee of the party is certain that Makinde would emerge as a contender with integrity, skill, and ability to serve the needs of the people. He said LP candidates should be supported for the state assembly elections. Moreover, Mr. Atayese emphasized that electing a candidate who would best advance the interests of all residents should be the top concern.

The LP Chairman continued by saying that no party could win the upcoming governor’s race alone. He recommended that political parties and their candidates team up with other candidates who share their ideologies. The LP in Oyo State has made the decision to support the candidate whose philosophy aligns with its own in terms of safety of lives and property, development of infrastructure, food security, education, and the development of human capital.

Mr. Atayese emphasized that the current PDP administration, led by Governor Makinde, has provided Primary Healthcare Centers in every ward as part of its scorecard from the health sector to security and other departments. He remarked that Governor Makinde is a visionary leader who has contributed significantly to the growth of Oyo State.

The LP Chairman stated that Oyo State has seen significant change over the past four years. Thus it makes sense that the excellent work should continue. The LP in Oyo state has chosen to back Makinde’s reelection for another four years of enormous progress by using its structure across the 33 local government areas.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, meantime, has denied that any organization affiliated with it has endorsed Governor Seyi Makinde’s reelection campaign. On Sunday in Ibadan, Mr. Olawale Sadare, the state’s APC publicity secretary, released a statement in reaction to a media story asserting that certain pro-Tinubu Support Groups had abandoned the party’s governorship candidate, Sen. Teslim Folarin, in favor of Makinde.

Despite the fact that all known pro-Tinubu Support Organizations were registered with the party, Sadare claimed that the groups were unknown to the party. The news of such endorsement, he said, was an example of cowardice, excessive pressure, and desperation. Sadare informed the populace that the APC’s attention is on the March 11 House of Assembly and the Governorship elections, where they want to outdo their success from the February 25 poll.

Relatedly, Governor Seyi Makinde has explained why Senator Bola Tinubu of the APC won the state in the February 25 presidential election. Makinde stated his joy at taking part in the procedure that “redrew the electoral map of Nigeria” during an appearance on Splash FM’s State Affairs with Desmond Obilo. He stated that he favored a unified Nigeria that provides opportunity for everyone and that he advocated for equity and justice. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 182,977 votes in Oyo State, was defeated by Tinubu, who received 449,884 votes.

Moreover, it should be noted that the selection of Governor Seyi Makinde as the Labour Party’s candidate in the approaching election for governor of Oyo State is a significant political milestone for the state. The LP’s decision to back Makinde for re-election is a testament to his record of brilliance and enormous contributions to the state’s growth.
