Obasanjo Stops By Wike’s Home In Rivers

On Thursday in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the governors of Ekiti and Rivers states meet with Nyesom Wike. The Port Harcourt International Conference 2023 is currently taking place at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt, and Obasanjo and Fayemi are in attendance. The summit is tagged “Deepening Democratic Culture and Institutions for Sustainable Development and Security in Nigeria.”

Speaking yesterday at the Port Harcourt International Conference, Obasanjo noted that while Nigeria cannot deny that it does not currently practice true democracy, it has represented and demonstrated democratic principles since 1999. However, in his speech entitled Respecting the Principles of Democracy, Obasanjo, the conference’s keynote speaker, insisted that Nigerians should be ready to shift from democracy to democratization and continue engaging in activities and debates about liberal democracy is insufficient.

In the country’s more significant interest, he defined democratization as a political and social process driven, absolved, and monitored by the people in their various communities. He added that the process inspires confidence in the ability to lay a solid and long-lasting foundation for the future.

Obasanjo, who also noted that there are no shortcuts, quick fixes, or magic wands to fix the country, nevertheless stated that for an enduring and flourishing democracy that will benefit the people, democracy must be developed and trained for good governance by all means in a systematic and ongoing manner.
