Osun APC Senatorial Candidate Famurewa Is Detained By Nigerian Police On Suspicion Of Illegally Possessing Firearms

Ajibola Famurewa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun East Senatorial District, has been taken into custody by the police on suspicion of, among other things, illegally possessing ammunition and firearms. On Tuesday, Famurewa received an invitation from police officers working for the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Alagbon, Lagos, about the capture of political thug Afolabi Fadahunsi, also known as Carlos.

According to reports, Afolabi referred to his National Assembly sponsor as the two-term representative of the Ijesa South Federal Constituency. The APC candidate was then taken into custody, and Wednesday was transported to the CID of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo. A top aide to Famurewa, Akinyele Akintola, commented on the event in a Facebook post and labeled the detention of his principal as political.

He emphasized that the suspect who implicated him was merely following the instructions of his paymasters in the ruling party and that the arrest of Famurewa resulted from a witch hunt by his political rivals. Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East in the Senate, responded by denying involvement in the detention of Famurewa. On the Peoples Democratic Party platform, Fadahunsi, who presently represents the senatorial constituency, is running for re-election.

The senator called the claim that he was the one who sponsored Afolabi to indict his APC counterpart ridiculous in a statement released by his media office.
