Seun Kuti Blasts Those Who Collected National Honors From Buhari ; Asks Them “What Do You Stand For?”
Seun Kuti, a Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has expressed dissatisfaction with selecting recipients for the 2023 national awards. He specifically named some individuals granted Officer Of The Order of The Niger (OON), such as Davido, Kunle Afolayan, Victor Osimhen, Terry Waya, and more than 300 prominent Nigerians.
The Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs officially announced the honorees’ list on Sunday, May 28th.
In a recent conversation regarding national honors, Seun Kuti expressed his opinion that certain celebrities and public figures who had previously criticized ex-President Muhammadu Buhari acted hypocritically by accepting the award. He challenged these individuals, asking them to reflect on whether they would be willing to reject the national honors based on their principles. This sparked a lively discussion about the integrity and values of those in the public eye and whether separating political beliefs from personal achievements was possible.
The singer said;
“Half of the people criticizing this government as the worst thing ever deh go collect award for abuja from the same government? No one will reject it on principle? Or Buhari don legit? Make una just tell me o. I dey ask for one presidential candidate.”
He added;
“Next 3 1/2 years now we start the same dance again. What do you stand for? #Mafo!! #standwellwell.”
