Why I Called Peter Obi An ‘Opportunist’ – Seun Kuti
The singer and Peter Okoye, a member of the Psquare duo, recently got into a social media argument. Kuti’s disparaging remark against Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, infuriated Okoye.
Kuti reiterated his remarks in an interview with Arise TV, noting that Obi merely recognized an opportunity and seized it. However, even if Peter Obi wins the election in 2023, he will still have to deal with a “hostile” government.
People took offense when I called him an opportunist, but in the correct sense of the word, that’s what occurred; he spotted an opportunity and seized it, Kuti said.
Speaking further on Peter Obi, Kuti claimed that opportunism is only effective in the corporate world and never in politics.
“In business life, opportunism is awesome. So if you’re doing business, you see an opportunity; you nail it,” he said.
“But in politics, opportunism must not be found if you want to move forward. We’ve done this whole change business that doesn’t have any substance. When we Nigerian people are serious, and we want to do business, we will do the business, and we’ll do it by ourselves. Not with the help of these established politicians who have already ruined our country.”
On the 25th of February, Nigerians will go to the polls as they elect a new government into office. Tinubu, Sowore -whom Seun Kuti prefers- is running alongside Obi, Kwankwaso, and Atiku for the Number One Citizen position.
