Mohbad’s Wife Makes Intriguing Revelations At Coroner’s Inquest
There have been some intriguing fresh revelations in the continuing investigation of Mohbad’s death and netizens have reacted to the updates. In her testimony, Wunmi Aloba, the late Mohbad’s wife, described to the court how Mohbad joined Marlian Records and the circumstances surrounding his split from the label, Marlian Music Records.
Wunmi disclosed that she was at the secondary school when she first met Mohbad. Mohbad had won a social media challenge initiated by BaddyOsha and was already doing well on his own as an artist, before joining Marlian Records.
“One day he told me that Naira Marley sent him a message on Instagram to come see him. I advised him to only feature Naira Marley on one song, and not sign a record deal with him but Mohbad said signing will help his career,”
Wunmi mentioned that she wasn’t familiar with who Naira Marley was until Mohbad began speaking about him, especially as he became popular at the time with his trending songs.
According to Wunmi, the real problem started when they refused to let Mohbad replace his manager—Tunde, the cousin of Naira Marley— and things began to go south. Mohbad was not pleased with the decision and attempted to leave the label, but Naira Marley denied him his rights, stating they would choose his management for him.
“He started receiving different threats from his oppressors and by 2022, when he left the label, he wasn’t stable again. He left with zero account. He didn’t have anything to start again and he started struggling to survive. Bella Shmurda fed us for three months when the issue happened as things were hard,”
She disclosed to the court the various ways in which “Mohabd’s oppressors” threatened him. She mentioned that Mohbad attempted to get in touch with a few musicians, but all of them—aside from Olamide and Bella Shmurda—never replied to him since they didn’t desire to be associated with him or his case. She added that he “lived in fear” till the day of his death because his “oppressors” often hired people to hurt him at random.
