Otedola Bridge Accident Claims Life, Causes Major Traffic Disruption

Lagos, Nigeria – A tragic accident occurred on the Otedola Bridge, Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State, when a heavily loaded truck fell, leading to the death of an unidentified man and causing a significant traffic jam. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, exacerbated the usual traffic congestion on the road.

The truck driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a collision with another truck. As a result, the truck crashed into the bridge’s railings. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), provided details of the accident. He explained that the truck driver was descending from the Mobil filling station towards Otedola and, in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle, lost control, leading the truck to crash into the side of the bridge.

The aftermath of the accident was chaotic. The driver’s compartment of the truck was found dangling off the bridge, with its cargo of wheat scattered all over the road. This spillage blocked the entire route under the bridge, heading towards Otedola estate.

Tragically, a young adult male, believed to be one of the truck’s occupants, fell off the bridge during the accident and lost his life.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident and stated that efforts were underway to clear the truck and its spilled contents from the road. In a statement, LASTMA highlighted the severity of the traffic congestion caused by the accident and the flooding on the bridge. They urged motorists to exercise patience and follow traffic directives while the cleanup operation was in progress.
