Новак Ђоковић Novak Đoković, professionally called Novak Djokovic, is a Serbian professional tennis player. Djokovic currently ranks world No. 2 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). He has been ranked world No. 1 for a record total of 389 weeks in a record 12 different years. He has also finished as the year-end No. 1 for a record seven times. 

Djokovic has won an all-time record 23 Grand Slam men’s singles titles. His Grand Slam men’s singles titles include a record ten Australian Open titles. He has won 94 singles titles overall, including a record 67 Big Titles, comprising his 23 majors, a record 38 Masters titles, and a joint-record six year-end championships.

The Tennis star has also completed a non-calendar year Grand Slam in singles. He became the only man in the history of professional tennis to be the reigning champion of all four majors simultaneously across three different surfaces. Djokovic is also the only man to achieve a triple Career Grand Slam in singles by winning each of the four majors at least three times. He also remains the only player to complete the career Golden Masters in singles by winning all nine ATP Masters tournaments. He achieved this iconic feat twice.

In 2016, he was elected president of the ATP Player Council. He stepped down in 2020 to head a new player-only tennis association, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA). He and Vasek Pospisil founded PTPA, and via this, they push for players to have more influence on the tour. They also advocate a better prize money structure for lower-ranked players in professional Tennis.

Djokovic comes from a family of five. He and his brothers are of paternal Serbian and maternal Croatian descent.

Parents

Djokovic’s parents inspired his love for Tennis by giving him a mini-racket and a soft foam ball. His father claimed it became “the most beloved toy in his life.” They later sent him to a tennis camp in Novi Sad. They ran a fast-food parlour and a sports equipment business in Mount Kopaonik, where the Teniski Klub Partizan ran a tennis camp overseen by Yugoslav tennis player Jelena Genčić.
