Parents
Oprah grew up in abject poverty and was primarily raised by her grandmother. She was the only child of an unmarried mother named Vernita Lee, who had a brief relationship with a nearby stationed soldier named Vernon Winfrey.
Siblings
Winfrey’s mother, Vernita, gave birth to Patricia when Winfrey was six years old; Patricia passed away in 2003. Lee gave birth to a third child, who she gave up for adoption since she couldn’t afford to care for her. Only in 2010 did Winfrey learn about her step-sister. Winfrey’s half-brother, Jeffery, was born to Lee; he passed away in 1989 as a result of issues related to AIDS. Her half-sister is Patricia Lofton. They have different fathers but the same mother.

She was molested by her aunts, cousins, and acquaintances while living with her family, so she fled at 13. She became pregnant when she was fourteen, and her son Canaan was born prematurely and passed away soon after.
