Joseph and Esther Olagookun welcomed Sola Sobowale into the world in Ondo State on 26 December 1965. Her mother had previously served as a headmistress, and her father had resigned as a principal. As a result, she was accepted to the University of Ibadan to pursue music after completing her primary and secondary education. However, along the way, she changed her mind and chose to complete her studies in theatre arts due to her love of performing.

Sola is famed for her elegance, originality, attractiveness, and classic portrayals of film characters. She became well-known for playing Toyin Tomato in Super Story and, more recently, Laburu in King of Boys and Awarun in Anikulapo.

The early stages of Sola’s acting journey were challenging. She first entered the field with the assistance of her brother-in-law, Tunji Oyelana, and made her acting début in the film Sura, the Tailor. Tunji Oyelana not only helped Sola launch her performing career, but he also enrolled her in university. Oyelana worked as an actor, singer, and educator.

Oyelana persuaded Sola’s parents to change their minds about their initial opposition to her acting, persuading them that it was a noble vocation rather than a path to vice. Sola’s parents thankfully granted their approval.

Sola Sobowale starred in The Village Headmaster, Mirror in the Sun, and the Yoruba movie Asewo To Re Mecca before becoming famous. In addition, Tade Ogidan’s 2004 drama film Dangerous Twins, written and directed by Niji Akanni, starred Sobowale.
