Our favourite thing about Bontle Smith is how she’s never shy to deliver. For those who still doubted who she was, the talented singer dropped the “This Is Me” EP and featured Tyler ICU, TNK MusiQ, Cooper SA, and more. She teamed up with Busta 929, Nobantu Vilakazi, and 20ty Soundz on the song “Money Maker.” She also collaborated with Nia Pearl and Nicole Elocin on the “Trinity EP.” The project was graced by Musa Keys, Mas Musiq, and more.
There is no doubt that Khanyisa has been one of the year’s most successful vocalists. If you’re looking for a hit, you might want to return to her June release “SUKA.” The song featured contributions from Tyler ICU, Nandipha808, and Ceeka RSA. She also appeared alongside Tumelo ZA and Tyrone Dee on Tyler ICU’s “Ngimoja.” Khanyisa appeared alongside Emjakeyz and Sir Trill and contributed to DJ Yessonia’s “Awushodi.” Her work with Tycoon and Raspy on “Dali Nguwe” was equally impressive. There’s something you should know about Lady Du; her biggest strength is in the connections and relationships she has built in the music industry. She is one of the most featured vocalists on the scene. She doubles as a vocalist and a DJ. This year, she scored a mildly successful hit with “Everyday iPaty waya waya.” The song is led by Myztro and features Dr Peppa, ShaunMusiq, Ftears, and Mellow & Sleazy. She has also dropped her own project and collaborated with Reign Racks, 84 Controller, and more.
Nokwazi has created a niche for herself on the scene. She has collaborated with DJs across various genres, including Afro House and Amapiano. This year, Nokwazi has been one of the hardest-working vocalists. She has collaborated with top stars and dropped good entries. Nokwazi worked with MaWhoo, Mashudu, and LeeArt on the Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa-led song “Ungiphethe Kahle.” She collaborated with Lowsheen and DJ Ngwazi on “Sohlala Sonke.” She also joined DJ Maphorisa on “Ama’Cocktail” alongside TNK MusiQ and Daliwonga.
Chley deserves a spot on the list because of how hard she has worked this year. The talented vocalist has contributed to many hits. Last year, she appeared alongside Musa Keys, Nkulee501, Skroef 28, and Konke in the song “Kancane” and with “M’nike” with Musa Keys, Konke, and Sayfar. She teamed up with Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz on “Shu!” Chley appeared alongside Musa Keys, Konke, Nkulee501, and Skroef 28 in the music video for “Kancane.” She has also worked with Semi Tee, Kamo_ww, Toby Franco, Mellow & Sleazy, and more. Her work has earned praise from fans.
05. Pabi Cooper
Amapiano singer and songwriter Pabi Cooper cannot hide from the spotlight. She had a fantastic year in 2022. She returned to the scene this year with more entries and caught the eye of the international scene. She did so well that she scored herself a nomination at the BET Awards for Best New International Artist. She has collaborated with Yumbs, Nkosazana Daughter, and MaWhoo on “Dali Wami,” M.J, Mellow & Sleazy on “Scooter,” and more. She scored a hit with “Dali Wam” alongside Yumbs, MaWhoo, and Nkosazana Daughter.
Mzansi singer and songwriter Tyla has been one of the year’s most prominent vocalists. The young singer dominated social media with her music. Her hit “Water” is currently one of the biggest songs on TikTok. Months back, she teamed up with Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr and released “Girl Next Door.” Tyla appeared alongside 2woshort, Makhanj, and Nvcho in the song “Ngowam” by Kelvin Momo. Tyla also appeared alongside ShaunMusiq, Ftears, DJ Maphorisa, Young Stunna, and Madumane in the song “That’s Ahh.” The song dropped in December last year and buzzed this year.
03. Ami Faku
Ami Faku reigns supreme as one of Amapiano’s top vocalists. She made her debut when she joined Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa in the songs “Abalele” and “Asibe Happy.” This year, she has stayed in view, collaborated with several Piano hitmakers, and earned praise for her work. Her collaboration with Aymos on “Fatela” was well-received by fans. She has also worked with Kabza on “Sizophumelela,” “Yini (Leak),” and “Nguyelona (Leak).” She contributed to Mas Musiq’s “Nguye Lo” and recently worked with Mdoovar and iLovelethu on “Uthando.”
02. Nkosazana Daughter
All the success that Nkosazana Daughter has had on the Piano scene is undeniable. Early last year, we were all just getting acquainted with her beautiful vocals, and DJs & artists were reaching out to work with her. Now, she’s on top of her game, contributing to hits and doing the most on the scene. Late last year, she teamed up with Murumba Pitch, Omit ST, and Sipho Magudulela on the jam “Esangweni.” It gained more popularity this year. She also dropped her debut album, “Uthingo Le Nkosazana.” She has worked with Kabza De Small, DJ Yessonia, Tyler ICU, and more this year.
Boohle is certainly a vocalist’s vocalist. The star has been killing it on the scene all year. Mid-last year, she teamed up with Deep London and released “Hamba Wena.” The song went viral on social media, driven by a challenge. It later became a massive hit. She has since continued to deliver. Boohle has collaborated with Mas Musiq on “Ingoma” and with Woza Sabza and Abie on “Impi.” We loved her work on “Sharp Macala 2.0 (Leak)” alongside Mellow & Sleazy and Chley. She’s been doing the most all year.
