Robert Glasper Unveils “In December” EP: A Holiday Collection with a Twist

Renowned musician Robert Glasper has announced the release of his holiday-themed EP titled “In December,” featuring a lineup of celebrated artists including Andra Day, PJ Morton, Sevyn Streeter, Cynthia Ervo, Tarriona Tank Ball, Alex Isley, and The Baylor Project. The EP, which is exclusively available on Apple Music through Loma Vista Recordings, offers a fresh take on holiday tunes with a mix of R&B and jazz influences.

The seven-track EP stands out for its soulful renditions and funky interpretations of holiday classics, steering away from traditional seasonal music. Glasper’s first foray into holiday music, “In December,” is designed to evoke joy with a nod to nostalgic moments, as the artist himself expressed his excitement over the project’s release.

In the backdrop of this release, Glasper is wrapping up his fifth annual Robtober residency at the Blue Note in New York City, which has been a showcase of extraordinary talent and special guest performances. Additionally, Glasper is set to appear as the guest band leader for The Roots on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on November 7th and 8th, promising a blend of his signature style with the show’s musical segments.

2023 has been a milestone year for Glasper, who took home the Best R&B Album Grammy for “Black Radio III.” The album, which is an extension of his Black Radio series, features a blend of new and returning collaborators and was later expanded with additional tracks in “Black Radio III: The Supreme Edition.”

Glasper’s influence extends beyond his albums, with his work as a producer on significant albums like Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly” and contributions to the film industry with scores for documentaries on Luther Vandross and Billy Preston. His presence in the industry is further solidified with a series of accolades, including 12 Grammy nominations and 5 wins, showcasing his versatility and impact across genres.
