Sandra Crouch, Grammy-Winning Gospel Singer, Passes Away At 81

Grammy-winning gospel singer and pastor Sandra Crouch is no longer with us. Her age was 81 at the time of her passing.

On March 17, Crouch, who was well-known for her gospel radio hits and her work with her twin brother Andraé Crouch in his group The Disciples and The COGICS, passed away. New Christ Memorial Church in Los Angeles, where she was a preacher, posted a Facebook post last week confirming her passing. Along with a happy photo of Crouch, Assistant Pastor Kenneth J. Cook posted a tribute on the platform.

Crouch gained recognition as a skilled gospel singer throughout her career, and as a result, she was nominated for and won several Grammy Awards for her contributions to the genre. She also performed as a background choir vocalist and tambourine player in studios for other musicians, including Michael Jackson.

The singer-songwriter was born on July 1, 1942, along with her twin brother Andraé. Her father, Benjamin J. Crouch, was a bishop and founded the Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ in Pacoima, California. As per her family’s homage on Legacy, the singer-songwriter grew up surrounded by gospel music.

Crouch did a lot of performing with her brother, a fellow gospel musician who passed away in 2015 at the age of 72, during her formative years in the 1960s.
