MTV Video Music Awards Announce The Date For Its 2024 Edition

The 2024 edition of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will take place on September 10 at the UBS Arena in New York.

Over 150 countries will watch the awards presentation on television worldwide. At two in the morning CAT, viewers in Africa can watch the ceremony on DStv channel 130. The biggest musicians in the world will make incredible cameos, massive tributes, and enormous performances to honor the best music videos from the previous year, according to MTV.

Mark Shulman, vice-president of programming at UBS Arena, called hosting MTV and the VMAs at the venue an honor. Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, expressed her excitement about the VMAs returning. At the MTV VMAs in New Jersey last year, Rema’s song “Calm Down,” featuring Selena Gomez, took home the Best Afrobeats Award.

The song beat out entries from artist Libianca of Cameroon and fellow Nigerian talents Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, CKay, and Ayra Starr. With nine prizes, including Artist of the Year, US singer Taylor Swift emerged as the biggest winner. Veteran hip-hop artist and producer Diddy, who is currently the target of numerous legal cases alleging rape, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking, was awarded the Global Icon Award.

Originally organized in 1984, the program honors exceptional musical achievements by American artists, but it has since broadened to include performers from other countries.
