Maryam Apaokagi was born on February 28, 1999, and spent most of her early years in Namibia. Taaooma attended Amazing Kids Private School & Academy for her elementary education before moving on to Concordia College in Windhoek, Namibia, where she completed some of her studies and developed a deep interest in comedy and performing arts. She eventually began creating and sharing sketches on social media because she loved the humour, which helped her get a large following and launch her career as the well-known Nigerian comic Taaooma. Following her graduation from Amazing Kids Private School & Academy, Maryam Apaokagi, also called Taaooma, pursued her higher studies at Concordia College in Windhoek, Namibia. Through her time in Namibia, she developed a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that would later shape her successful career.

After moving to Nigeria, Taaooma attended Kwara State University and earned a tourism and travel service management degree. She convinced her fiancé to teach her the fundamentals of video editing, and in 2015, she began her career in internet comedy.
