Viola Davis is an American actress and producer who was born on August 11, 1965. Davis is one of the few artists who have received an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony (EGOT); she is also the only African-American to have achieved the Triple Crown of Acting, as well as the third person to have done so.

Davis began her career in local theater performances in Central Falls, Rhode Island. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, she had minor roles in film and television. Her breakthrough act as a troubled mother in the movie Doubt (2008) earned her her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Davis was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as a 1960s housemaid in the comedy-drama The Help (2011).

She starred as lawyer Annalise Keating in the ABC drama series How to Get Away with Murder from 2014 to 2020, and she was the first black actress to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2015.
