Biography
Born July 17 1985, Jorge Álvaro Osorio Balvin, long famous by his adopted stage name J Balvin, is a Colombian reggaeton singer and rapper. When he was about seven years old, he became interested in music when his parents moved to the Colombian capital and discovered Michael Jackson.
The discovery of the pop legend kindled his interest in and passion for music. However, it was not until the age of 14 that he began to write his songs, record them on a karaoke machine and upload them online to share with others.
It wasn’t until 2012 that J Balvin’s career began to take off after meeting the manager of a music label called Pina Records while they were at a party in Ibiza, Spain. After spending two months in regional promotion, an unknown song called “Yo Te Lo Dije” ended up reaching number one on Mexico’s official trending topics list, ahead of Justin Bieber and Shakira; it also reached number 23 on the US Latin Billboard charts.
J Balvin is famous for many songs, including his major-label debut single “6 AM,” featuring Puerto Rican singer Farruko, from his first EP “Yo Quiero Bailar,” released on July 24, 2014, by Sony Music Entertainment.
The song was later included in the remix album “La Familia B Sides,” which served as J Balvin’s first release with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. On October 2, 2014, J Balvin released the video for “La Venia Bendita,” featuring vocals from Polish singer Selena Gomez.
J Balvin has been honoured several times for his contributions to global pop. In 2016 he received a Billboard Music Award for Top Latin Artist.
