Buhari Confers Davido With National Award
As the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari drew to a close, he decided to confer national honors upon a select group of individuals as his final official act. Among the distinguished recipients of the prestigious Order of the Niger (OON), award were those prominent in the entertainment sector, including David Adeleke, widely known by his stage name Davido, and Afolayan.
These individuals have been chosen for their outstanding contributions to the advancement and betterment of Nigeria and their exceptional achievements in their respective fields of endeavor. The Order of the Niger (OON) award is a highly esteemed recognition of excellence and service to the nation, and its bestowal upon these individuals is a testament to their exceptional merit and dedication to the development of Nigeria.
Davido is a highly acclaimed musician who has gained immense popularity in Nigeria and Africa and globally, making him the most followed musician from Nigeria on social media. Similarly, Afolayan is a renowned filmmaker in Nollywood, having directed numerous successful movies such as Figurine, October 1, and Anikulapo, for which he has received several awards and recognition.
On his Instagram story, Davido shared a picture of the list of awardees to celebrate his recent conferment. Along with him, other renowned Afrobeats artists such as Teni, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, and Wasiu Ayinde (a Fuji legend) have also received national awards from President Buhari. In addition, footballer Victor Oshimhen was also recognized with an award.
On May 29, 2023, President Buhari transferred power to Bola Tinubu amidst allegations of widespread irregularities during the election. The election result is currently under litigation and has faced significant public disapproval. As Tinubu takes on the role of leader, he will face intense scrutiny from the public, who eagerly anticipate improved governance.
