Davido Claims To Be The New “Afrobeat Leader” After Burna Boy And Wizkid Abandon The Genre

In a daring declaration of his musical abilities, Nigerian musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, has declared that he is the undisputed leader of the global Afrobeats scene.

During a riveting interview with Billboard’s renowned Nadine Graham, the charismatic DMW mastermind didn’t just reply to the interviewer’s designation of him as the leading figure in American Afrobeats; he also fiercely proclaimed his dominance, boldly asserted his leadership not just in the American landscape but also globally, and proclaimed himself the unrivaled leader “everywhere.”

Declaring that he is a global leader in Afrobeats, Davido said he hoped people would expect “nothing but good music,” adding that even persons incarcerated had listened to his songs. Davido disclosed that he is working on two albums at the moment, making it clear that one is meant for an African audience and the other for an American one.

The singer also revealed that “2 AM,” his collaboration with Casanova and Tory Lanez, is his favorite since it successfully combines American, Canadian, and Nigerian cultures.

This unfolds just a few days after Wizkid joined Burna Boy to make it clear that he is not an Afrobeats musician. This was revealed by the “Essence” actor on his Instagram story on Saturday. He also cautioned fans not to expect an Afrobeats version of him on his next album.
