Davido Comments On Cubana Chief Priest’s EFCC Trial Proceedings

Nigerian Afrobeats musician, Davido, expressed satisfaction after learning that his close friend Cubana Chief Priest, whose true name is Pascal Okechukwu, had been granted bail after being charged with abuse of the Naira.

Charges of perhaps disrespecting the national currency brought Cubana Chief Priest before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court, Lagos. He was charged with three counts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Cubana Chief Priest entered a not guilty plea to the accusations, according to news sources.

Davido responded to this on social media, saying, “I no go see u for 6 months ke… Never,” under the wellness check post made by Cubana Chief Priest soon after his release.

This probably made reference to the recent jail sentence for a comparable offense of Bobrisky, another popular personality. Cubana Chief Priest eventually received a N10 million bail with two sureties in the same sum. He hasn’t yet commented in public on the verdict of the trial. Nigeria’s continuous attempts to safeguard the integrity of its national currency are highlighted by this episode.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) forbids manipulating the Naira in any way, including by spraying it or defacing it. Although Davido seems worried that his friend would go to jail, Cubana Chief Priest’s successful bail application provides some comfort. Nigerians are reminded by this case how important it is to respect their own currency.
