Fans React As Davido Lists His “Controversial” Next ‘Big 5’ In Nigeria’s Music Scenery

There will always be those who won’t agree with one’s viewpoints when one talks too much, whether due to emotion or rational disagreement. This is the situation where Davido has stoked another fire that is being fanned into a flame on social media. In his list of the “next big 5” Nigerian musicians who would rule the music industry, the Afrobeats Superstar David Adeleke, aka Davido, omitted Fireboy DML, Tems, and Omah Lay, which sparked a new uproar.

In a recent interview with Omega, the DMW Boss was asked to name the “next” big five Nigerian talents. The entertainer answered:

“I would say like the next big five. I would say Rema; he got the ‘Calm Down’ record, Buju (BNXN), Ayra Starr…I would say Victony.

No, no, me I no want jones o. Okay, let’s do it like this. It’s Rema, Buju, Asake; between him and Rema, I would say they are at the top…Ayra Starr and Ruger.

The future of afrobeats, I would say it’s crazy.”

Given that other acts like Fireboy DML, Tems, and Omah Lay had already established themselves as very established stars in comparison to some of the names he mentioned save Rema, it is evident that the context in which he was speaking was in reference to the “newest/youngest guys on the block,” but trust netizens to interpret his statement. Supporters criticized the “Unavailable” singer for leaving out Fireboy, Tems, and Omah Lay on social media comment sections. In contrast, some, particularly his 30BG supporters, tried to explain the situation their favorite had provoked.

In any case, Davido has consistently supported the majority of the up-and-coming artists and hasn’t been afraid to acknowledge their development, which is a crucial aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked.
