Jimmy Fallon & Heart Sing Bonnie Tyler’s Classic ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ To Mark Solar Eclipse Occurrence

On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse occurred in North America and Mexico. This rare and impressive natural phenomenon happens when the moon aligns perfectly between the Earth and the sun, blocking out sunlight. Most of North America and Mexico last witnessed a total solar eclipse in 2017, and they won’t see it again for another 21 years.

The Tonight Show, which stars Jimmy Fallon, featured an exceptional New York Times Square performance to celebrate this cosmic event. Heart, the week’s musical guest, joined Jimmy Fallon on stage to sing the iconic 80s hit, “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” During the rare cosmic occurrence, the performance was shot on the rooftop at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The moment was unforgettable, with Jimmy Fallon wearing a curly mullet wig and 80s-style visor sunglasses while “rocking out” with the “Barracuda” hitmakers. The show also featured other guests, including Jim Parsons and Kaia Gerber.

Bonnie Tyler, the song’s original artist, recently expressed love for its ‘unofficial status’ as the solar eclipse anthem. “I still get excited when I hear the song on the radio,” Tyler revealed to Good Morning America. Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world plays ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ and I never get tired of singing it.

In addition to The Tonight Show, Vampire Weekend also performed a special gig to commemorate the eclipse at the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. Their live performance treated the audience to a few surprises, including the band debuting new songs and bringing out special guests from Phoenix and Chromeo. The show was a perfect way to celebrate this rare cosmic event and will be remembered for years.
