Justin Timbaland To Be Inducted Into Songwriters Hall Of Fame

The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its 2024 class of inductees, led by the Virginia-born music producer Timbaland. The announcement was made on January 17, and the official induction ceremony for this distinguished group will take place on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. Alongside Timbaland, the 2024 class includes R.E.M., Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsey, and Dean Pitchford. They are all recognized for their significant contributions to the music industry and exceptional songwriting skills. The Songwriters Hall of Fame is dedicated to honouring and celebrating the achievements of songwriters from all genres and eras.

Notably, some highly regarded artists were nominated for induction but did not make it this year. These include Public Enemy, George Clinton, and Tracy Chapman. However, they will remain eligible for induction in the future. Last year’s inductees were supposed to include Snoop Dogg and Sade, but Snoop Dogg pulled out of the event for personal reasons. It is unknown whether they will be joining the 2024 inductees.

It is worth noting that only four hip-hop acts have previously been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. These include Jay-Z, The Neptunes (Pharrell and Chad Hugo), Missy Elliott, and Jermaine Dupri. Hence, Timbaland’s induction is a significant milestone for the hip-hop community, as it recognizes the genre’s growing influence on the music industry.

Timbaland, for his part, expressed his happiness over the news on Instagram, writing:

“GOD IS GREAT!!!!!!!”

Nile Rodgers, the chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, stated in a release,

“I’ve said it before, but the music industry does not exist without songwriters delivering great songs first. Without them there is no recorded music, no concert business, no merch . . . nothing, it all starts with the song and the songwriter.

“We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and literally enriched music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”
