Slowthai Releases New Album ‘UGLY’
British rapper slowthai has released his third studio album, UGLY, via Method Records / Interscope Records. After the success of his debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, and his chart-topping sophomore album, TYRON, slowthai has once again defied expectations with UGLY. Produced by Dan Carey and his frequent collaborators Kwes Darko, Zach Nahome, and Sega Bodega, the album showcases slowthai’s love for rock, indie, and punk, and features a range of talented musicians, including Shygirl, Jockstrap’s Taylor Skye, Beabadoobee guitarist Jacob Bugden, and Fontaines D.C.
The album is preceded by singles “Selfish” and “Feel Good,” both of which come with accompanying music videos that demonstrate slowthai’s versatility as a musician and a creative. The album is accompanied by a visual playlist, which features a video for every song.
As a performer, slowthai has shared the stage with popular acts like BROCKHAMPTON, Turnstile, and A$AP Rocky. He has also collaborated with Tyler, The Creator, Kenny Beats, Denzel Curry, and other notable musicians. In the UK, he has conducted a series of intimate shows in pubs and venues, with tickets priced at an inflation-busting £1, as a thank you to his hardcore supporters.
UGLY represents a departure from slowthai’s earlier work, as he pulls himself apart and exposes his anxieties over the past couple of years. The album cover is a close-up of the left side of his face, with the title of the album tattooed beneath his eye. According to slowthai, UGLY is a reminder to love himself and stay true to who he is, rather than allowing the impressions that others have of him to dictate his sense of self.
In a recent interview, slowthai explained that UGLY is his most personal album yet. “The first album was the sound of where I’m from and everything I thought I knew,” he said
