Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” Makes History As The First Album To Reach 1B Spotify Streams In Just A Week

With new stats coming in, it’s safe to say Taylor Swift is the biggest artist on the planet.

Following the April 19 release of Taylor Swift’s new album and its extended Anthology version, the 34-year-old pop sensation made history on Spotify, which announced that her 31-song album is the first to exceed one billion listens in a single week. Not only has a whole week gone since the album’s release, but The Tortured Poets Department is already Spotify’s most-streamed album in just a week.

Swift has smashed a lot of records lately, not just her most recent Spotify record. Following its release, TTPD amassed 300 million streams in a single day on the platform, breaking the previous record held by her two albums, Midnights and 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Additionally, on April 19, the first single from the new album, “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone, became the streaming platform’s most-streamed song in a single day.

Swift discussed collaborating with Malone and revealed that “Fortnight” will be the album’s first single just before TTPD was released. After the song and music video were out, Malone posted a picture of himself with Swift on social media to reflect on their collaboration. Swift said in a social media post that the “sensational and sorrowful” chapter of her life was “closed” once the album was released.
