Jimmy Butler, Yours Truly, People, April 27, 2024

It’s interesting to know that September 14, 1989, marks the birth of Butler in Houston. Unfortunately, his father left the family when he was still a baby. Later, when Butler turned thirteen and lived in the Tomball suburb of Houston, his mother ejected him from the family home. He had to move from one place to another to stay at his friends’ houses. Only before his senior year at Tomball High School did he meet Jordan Leslie, who spotted him in a summer basketball league and challenged him to a three-point shooting competition. They hit it off instantly, and Butler stayed at Leslie’s house. Eventually, Leslie’s mother and stepfather welcomed him into their family despite their initial reluctance. Butler was grateful for Leslie’s mother’s kindness and said it had nothing to do with basketball. During his time at Tomball High, Butler averaged ten points per game as a junior and 19.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior and team captain in 2006–07, earning him the title of his team’s most valuable player. After declining several offers of admission after high school, Butler attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.
