Mahmood Yakubu Biography

Mahmood Yakubu is a Nigerian academic, professor and current chairman of Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prof. Yakubu found himself in the spotlight following his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015. But the attention on him appears to be more concentrated at the moment because of his handling of the 2023 election.

As Nigeria’s electoral umpire, Mahmood is believed not to have served with rectitude and Nigerians are mostly angry with him as a result. Born in Bauchi, Mahmood’s adventure in the world of academia began in the 1980s. He worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Jos in 986 and continued his academic pursuits until he was promoted to Lecturer 1 and moved to the Nigerian Defence Academy.

He would remain at the institution, ultimately clinching the position of professor of political science and international relations, which he held until his appointment as Chairman of INEC.

Mahmood Yakubu’s family comprises himself, his wife or wives and children, all of whom he had done a great job of hiding from the public.

One area of public curiosity is whether Mahmooh has siblings or not. We cannot confirm whether he has siblings. This is another aspect of his life that the public doesn’t have much information about.

Prof Mahmood reportedly has children, but they remain largely anonymous. Yes, they have managed to stay out of the limelight, except for one, who went viral recently over his comments on Twitter which many tweeps found in bad taste.

Several sources point to Mahmood being married, but he has neither confirmed nor denied the claims. If he is indeed married, he has done a great job of keeping that aspect of his life away from the public. Given the sensitive position he occupies and the recent threats to his person, his staying mum about his wife should not be surprising.

Mahmood is somewhat demure in his lifestyle. Some tweeps see him as an example of sartorial elegance, but his outfits are often limited to local wear, including kaftans. He is not your pop idol who rolls from one club to another and from one willing broad to another.
