Fans in Nigeria and globally were treated to one of the most eagerly awaited projects from an Afrobeats musician on March 31, 2023, when Davido released his fourth studio album, “Timeless.” Following months of silence following a horrific event in 2022, the album’s release has changed the music industry, with the artist breaking and setting numerous records.

Asake, Fave, The Cavemen, Morravey, and Logos Olori, the newest members of DMW, as well as Grammy-winning Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo, British rapper Skepta, South African music producer/DJ Musa Keys, Jamaican dancehall/reggae singer Dexta Daps, and South African rapper Focalistic all make guest appearances on the album.

“Timeless” also broke the record for the most streams by an African artist in a single day, with over 50 million plays across multiple music platforms. This feat surpassed Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos” album’s previous record.

Most First-Day Album Sales

Davido also set a record with “Timeless” for the most first-day album sales by an African musician. The album sold over one million copies on its first day of release, beating Burna Boy’s previous record.

Most Simultaneous Top 100 Appearances

With all 17 singles from Davido’s “Timeless” album appearing simultaneously on the top 100 rankings on different music streaming services, the album also broke a record for the most simultaneous Top 100 chart appearances.

Most Shazamed Album by an African Artist 

Davido’s “Timeless” became the most Shazamed as new songs on the album became the most sought after by an African act upon the album’s release.

Highest Number of Entries on the Billboard Global 200 Chart by an African Artist

On the first full day of tracking, 8.4 million streams of “Timeless” were recorded. It became the first African album to record that many streams on the first day of release with this total number of streams. The record for the largest first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria was broken by Davido’s “Timeless” album, which dethroned Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini.”

Davido’s “Timeless” album hit 10 million stream milestone the quickest in Boomplay history. On April 1st, 2023, the popular album passed the milestone of 10 million streams. It also holds the record for the fastest album to reach the milestone of 1 million streams, just 24 hours after release. Burna Boy’s “Love, Damini” (3.38M) had previously set the record, but the album’s first-day streams broke it.

Highest Charting African Album in US Apple Music history

Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album became the highest charting album by an Afrobeats artist when it reached its peak position at Number 2 on the US Apple Music Album list less than 24 hours after its release. It also made history by becoming the first and only afrobeats album to have every song debut in the UK’s top 100 on Apple Music. The singer also made history by becoming the first afrobeats artist to have 10 singles debut in the top 200 on the US Apple Music Top Songs list.

Other records set by Davido with “Timeless” include having an album trailer with the most YouTube views for an African artist. In addition, with more than 12 million streaming in its first 24 hours, the album also shattered the Audiomack record for the biggest album first-day streams ever.
