U2’s Adam Clayton Announces Divorce

Adam Clayton, the bassist of the iconic band U2, has recently announced his decision to divorce his wife, Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, after ten years of marriage. According to a spokesperson for the couple, the separation was amicable, and they parted ways on good terms. Despite the split, they decided to co-parent their six-year-old daughter, Alba. It is worth noting that Clayton also has a son from a previous relationship, born in 2010.

In a statement issued by their spokesperson, the couple said, “After more than ten years of marriage, musician Adam Clayton and lawyer Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho have amicably divorced. Both will continue fully caring for their daughter, and they request that the family’s privacy be respected.” The couple met in Brazil, the home country of Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, before getting married in September 2013 at a Dublin registry office. They hosted another celebration a few days later in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, near Cannes, where Clayton’s U2 bandmates—Bono, The Edge, and Larry Mullen Jr.—were among the guests. In 2017, they announced the birth of their daughter with a notice in The Irish Times that read (via Daily Mail): “Adam and Mariana Clayton are delighted to announce the birth of their beautiful baby girl Alba.”

Before marrying Mariana, Adam Clayton was briefly engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell in 1994. He was also involved in 2006 with Suzie Smith, the former assistant to U2’s manager Paul McGuinness, before they split the following year. U2 recently wrapped up their massive residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, marking the end of their long-running concert series. The band recently shared a clip of them performing ‘Beautiful Day’ for the final time at their Las Vegas residency at the Sphere.
