The Brit Award is the British Phonographic Industry’s yearly prize for popular music, much like the Grammy is to the United States. The two-hour Brit Awards 2023 ceremony, which comedian Mo Gilligan hosted, took place at the 02 Arena on Saturday. At this year’s BRIT Honors, the annual event celebrating the most outstanding music from the United Kingdom, Beyoncé, Wet Leg, and Harry Styles all received prizes. There were also other awards given to international musicians.
In the categories of “international artist of the year” and “international song of the year,” Beyoncé defeated Nigeria’s Burna Boy and Fireboy DML. Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year (Harry’s House), Song of the Year (“As It Was”), and Best Pop & R&B Act were given to Harry Styles. Wet Leg earned Group of the Year and Best New Artist, while Beyoncé was voted International Artist of the Year and her Renaissance song “Break My Soul” International Song of the Year.
During the award ceremony at London’s O2 Arena, Fontaines D.C., Becky Hill, Aitch, Flo, and The 1975 were also recognized. Ahead of the presentation, David Guetta and Kid Harpoon received their respective awards for Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year earlier in the evening.
