Basketmouth Expresses Concern Over Music Video Production Fees

Comedian and Music Executive Highlights the Economic Impact on the Entertainment Sector

In recent times, the Nigerian entertainment industry has been grappling with the economic challenges affecting the nation. One of the prominent figures in the industry, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has voiced his concerns over the escalating costs of producing music videos in the country.

Basketmouth, a renowned comedian and music executive, shed light on the significant increase in music video production fees during recent media interviews. He reminisced about a time when the standard fee for producing a music video ranged between 7 to 7.5 million Naira. However, to his astonishment, the current rates have skyrocketed to a staggering 27 to 30 million Naira.

This surge in costs prompted Basketmouth to opt for a more budget-friendly approach for his latest track, “Party,” which is the lead single from his forthcoming album titled “Uburu.” Instead of investing over N25 million for a conventional music video, he decided to produce a “holdup” video. This revelation came to light during his conversation with The Beat 99.9 FM, a popular radio station in Lagos.

The comedian’s sentiments resonate with many in the entertainment sector who are feeling the pinch of the nation’s economic downturn. The inflationary trend has not only affected the cost of living but has also permeated various sectors, including entertainment.

In addition to Basketmouth’s concerns, other industry insiders have also shared their experiences. For instance, comedian Destalker highlighted challenges he faced with senior colleagues in the industry, which affected his progress. He mentioned instances where he approached sponsors with proposals, only to face hurdles when these sponsors sought approvals from senior figures in the entertainment world.

Furthermore, AY Makun, another prominent comedian, shed light on his past disagreements with Basketmouth. The two had a well-publicized feud, which AY discussed in detail during an interview with Chude. Interestingly, Basketmouth recently extended an olive branch, apologizing to AY and calling for peace and harmony between them.
