Drake Takes Swipe At Noah Lyles Over NBA “World Champion” Comments
On August 27, Noah Lyles, a renowned track and field athlete, shared his thoughts regarding using the term “world champion” in relation to the National Basketball Association Finals. His opinion caused a stir amongst NBA players, and even the famous rapper Drake took notice. During a press conference held after securing three gold medals at the World Athletics Championships, the athlete hailing from Florida expressed scepticism over the global acceptance and recognition of the label.
“I watch the NBA Finals, and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?”. “I love the U.S., but we’re talking about a competition that almost exclusively features American teams. That’s not ‘the world.’”
Lyles’ thoughts on social media gained much traction and became a trending topic among users. Several NBA stars also weighed in on the issue. Kevin Durant, for example, commented on Instagram, expressing concern, “Somebody help this brother.” Meanwhile, Devin Booker, his teammate on the Phoenix Suns, responded with a facepalm emoji, seemingly indicating his frustration or disappointment in the situation.

Aaron Gordon was not as diplomatic, stating confidently, “Whatever… I can beat him in the 200m.” Even Drake joined in on August 28, asserting,
“He thought this speech was going to be a mic-drop moment,” Now, he’s getting zero respect from the league.”
