Ice Spice Gets Emotional After Bagging Award For Best New Artist At 2023 MTV VMAS

Ice Spice expressed emotional acceptance at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards as she received the Best New Artist honour. The Bronx rap starlet thanked her fans and God on the VMAs stage in Newark, New Jersey, on Tuesday, September 12, while wearing an all-white tutu outfit and diamond accoutrements.

She said,

“Y’all, thank you so much,” “Thank you MTV. Oh my God, this is so cool. I just want to thank my Munchkins. I love you guys so much. I want to thank my manager, James. I want to thank my producer Riot [USA] for making the best music with me.”

She added:

“Shoutout to all the other nominees in this category. Shoutout to my label 10K and Capitol for always supporting me. And of course, God. Without God, none of this would be possible. Shoutout the Bronx, period! Thank you guys, I love you so much!”

For the coveted prize, Ice Spice bested GloRilla, Kaliii, Peso Pluma, PinkPantheress, and René Rapp. The Best New Artiste honour has gone to a female performer for the past six years. The rapper of “Munch” follows in the footsteps of Cardi B (2018), Billie Eilish (2019), Doja Cat (2019), Olivia Rodrigo (2021), and Dove Cameron (2022). All but Cardi and Cameron received nominations for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Next year’s Grammys might see Ice Spice do the same, but only time will tell. Following her selection as Billboard’s 2023 Rookie of the Year, the 23-year-old’s victory at the VMAs continues her spectacular year.

Spice told Billboard,

“I have put in so much hard work, and it means a lot to be recognized for it and have more than just plaques to show for it,”. “I hope to push the genre forward in whatever ways I can, but I know I’ll have a huge impact on the youngins coming up now.”

The publication named Ice Spice the honour in recognition of her four Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hits, which included successful collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. With her “Karma” collaboration with Swift, the curly-haired Hip Hop princess surpassed Nicki’s previous record for the most significant streaming debut by a female rapper in Spotify history back in May. The song received 5.036 million plays on the service on its first day after being made available as a bonus track on Taylor Swift’s deluxe album Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition). This made “Karma” the top new entry, driving it to No. 5 on the global Spotify list.
