Kerry King Reveals Tour Plans And Album Release; Says New Project Is An “Extension Of Slayer”

Are there any Slayers fans here? Then this may be some good news for y’all…

Former Slayer guitarist Kerry King is going on tour—but alone. He revealed he was going on tour when recently interviewed by Metal Hammer, where he updated fans about his upcoming solo album. King confidently described the album as “an extension” of Slayer’s legendary thrash metal music and confirmed that it is set to be released in the summer. He further stated that the album, completed in June 2023, will unapologetically follow in the sonic footsteps of his former band. King also clarified that the album will not include guest appearances, as he believes they would not be “reproducible live.”

He said,

“If I wasn’t in Slayer, I would be a Slayer fan,”

“So yes, I think it’s an extension of Slayer, and I think a lot of people will think it might have been the next record. I guess maybe 80 per cent of it would have been, maybe it would have been exactly what I’m putting on this one.”

“There’s definitely some fast stuff on it. It’s not the fastest thing I’ve ever done, but I’ve done some pretty fast stuff. There’s definitely some Herculean speeds getting achieved on this, but there’s heavy stuff. There’s punky stuff. There’s doomy stuff. Pretty much any aspect of any kind of music we’ve done in our history, I think you’ll find on this record.”

Notably, Slayer’s last release before their disbandment in 2019 was the film “The Repentless Killology.” Despite being asked, he refused to reveal the names of his collaborators for his solo debut album. He firmly stated that everyone who has contributed to the album will be a part of his future projects as well; however, in July 2022, without any doubt, he once confirmed that Paul Bostaph, former drummer of Slayer, would be joining him in his solo endeavours—at least that’s known. Fans can expect a yet-untitled release that stays true to the classic Slayer sound, all while showcasing King’s undeniably powerful guitar skills.
