“Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” Documentary Out Soon

Lil Nas X fans, rejoice! The release date for the much-awaited Lil Nas X tour documentary, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” is finally here. The documentary premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and is now set to release on HBO and Max by the end of this month.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary will be broadcast on HBO at 8 p.m. ET on January 27 and simultaneously available on the Max streaming platform. The film is directed by Zac Manuel and Carlos López Estrada, renowned for their work on Blindspotting and Raya And The Last Dragon. The documentary follows Lil Nas X’s journey on his first-ever headlining tour, the Long Live Montero Tour, from September 6, 2022, to March 26, 2023. The tour generated over $7 million in revenue after 21 shows and sold around 100,000 tickets, according to the TouringData page on Twitter.

The film showcases Lil Nas X’s candid conversations about his place in the music industry as a Black and queer performer. The documentary highlights his struggles and achievements as he rises to fame and his unique take on the accusations of devil worship prompted by his debut. The film’s premiere at the 2023 TIFF was delayed due to a bomb threat against the festival. However, the organizers clarified that the threat was not directed at Lil Nas or his film. The screening went ahead with additional security, and the film currently holds a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes with eight critic reviews.
