Lil Nas X Is Bringing His ‘Long Live Montero’ Tour Documentary To HBO

Enthusiasts of Lil Nas X have a gift in store: a concert documentary about his last year’s ended inaugural international tour will soon be available.

The 24-year-old Atlanta-based artist revealed on Thursday, December 4, that Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero will debut on HBO and Max on January 27. The movie takes its title from the 60-date worldwide tour that he did in support of his debut album, which took place between September 6, 2022, and March 26, 2023.

First screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2023, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero” is directed by Zac Manuel and Carlos López Estrada, the Oscar-nominated director who has worked on Raya and the Last Dragon, Summertime, Blindspotting, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s music videos. Among the films for which Manuel has directed and taken still photos are Alone, Buckjumping, America, Time, Nonstop, This Body, and The Cut.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that in addition to footage of his electrifying concerts, the documentary includes Lil Nas X discussing his position as a queer Black guy in the music industry. The typically controversial singer broke the news of his documentary’s arrival in a simple Instagram announcement.

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, a RadicalMedia production in collaboration with Museum & Crane, is presented by HBO Documentary Films, Sony Music Entertainment, and Columbia Records.
