Ludwig Göransson Wins Best Original Score Award With “Oppenheimer” At Golden Globes

At the recently concluded 2024 Golden Globes Awards, Ludwig Göransson took home the Best Original Score for Oppenheimer, and the producer was all over the moon about it. For the trophy, he defeated Black Midi associate Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things), Mica Levi (The Zone of Interest), Joe Hisaishi (The Boy and the Heron), Daniel Pemberton (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), and the late Robbie Robertson (Killers of the Flower Moon).

While making his speech, Göransson expressed his gratitude to Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for “inviting him on this journey” as well as the musicians who contributed to the lifelike score.

He said,

“Working with Christopher Nolan has been an incredible experience and I think the way that you use music in your films and storytelling has inspired a lot of people,”

“I want to also thank Cillian Murphy. I have been watching your face over and over and over again and it’s been an incredible experience.”

Ludwig’s win brings to mind his snub at the 2023 edition, as he was beaten to the prize. For his work in Babylon, Justin Hurwitz won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score in 2023. Meanwhile, M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose won the 2023 Best Original Song award for their song “Naatu Naatu” in the movie RRR.

Billie Eilish and Finneas won the Best Original Song trophy for Barbie’s “What Was I Made For?” shortly after Göransson’s victory. It was among the three Barbie songs in the category, along with Bruce Springsteen’s She Came to Me song “Addicted to Romance,” Lenny Kravitz’s Rustin contribution “Road to Freedom,” and Jack Black’s popular song from The Super Mario Bros. Movie “Peaches.” The other Barbie songs were Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken.”
