BET Awards 2023: Black Sherif Wins First BET Hip-Hop Award; Makes History

Black Sherif has made history by becoming the second Ghanaian to win the BET Hip Hop Award for ‘Best International Flow.’ The Ghanaian artist Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, popularly known as Black Sherif, was awarded ‘Best International Flow’ at the 2023 Hip Hop Awards hosted in Atlanta on Tuesday, October 23, 2023. The award show was recorded on Tuesday and will be broadcast live on October 10, 2023.

Black Sherif emerged victorious in the International Flow category, beating eight other competitors, including prominent musicians such as Central Cee, Gazo, J Hus, and AKA. He is the second Ghanaian to win this category after Sarkodie’s win in 2019. As his most famous song, ‘Kwaku the Traveller,’ played in the background, Black Sherif gracefully walked up to the stage to accept his award.

In 2022, Black Sherif was nominated for the ‘Best International Flow’ category at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. The other nominees in this category were Benjamin Epps from France, Central Cee from the UK, Blxckie from South Africa, Haviah Mighty from Canada, Knucks from the UK, Le Juiice from France, Nadia Nakai from Zimbabwe, and Tasha & Tracie from Brazil. However, Benjamin Epps was announced as the ‘Best International Flow’ award winner in 2022.

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif recently released two highly anticipated singles as part of the Take Care of Yourself Blacko project. The project features two tracks, “Yaya” and “Simmer Down,” co-produced by the talented Joker Nharnah and Samsney. In addition, Black Sherif’s hit song “Kwaku the Traveller” has been making waves globally. The song has earned him a spot on the Billboard Top Triller Global Chart, where it secured the 12th position in February 2022. The catchy tune features Black Sherif’s signature storytelling style, where he paints vivid pictures of life’s struggles and triumphs. Overall, Black Sherif continues to prove himself as a rising star in the African music scene, and his latest releases are a testament to his talent and creativity.
