Mary J. Blige Sets Her Sights On Retiring From Music In “5 or 6 Years”

Mary J. Blige has outlined her plans for retirement.

The 53-year-old R&B legend stated in a recent interview that was released on April 29 that she plans to leave the music business in “five or six years.” The singer may be nearing the conclusion of her incredibly lucrative three-decade career in music, but her accomplishments haven’t stopped flowing, as seen by her admission into the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

On April 21, Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Ozzy Osbourne, and A Tribe Called Quest were revealed as the new inductees on American Idol. Blige is scheduled to perform at the ceremony, which is scheduled for October 19 in Cleveland. Additionally, on May 10–12, Mother’s Day weekend, her birthplace of New York City will host the third annual Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit.

Celebrities will be appearing at a number of events during the three-day festival, which is the only one organized by an all-Black team of women. These events include the Strength of a Woman Summit at The Glasshouse and other inspirational seminars and programming. Additionally, Blige has hinted that the record she is working on might be her last, which further rubs in her retirement announcement.
