The new tune “If Only It Was Warmth” is a beguiling blend of sparse instrumentals and introspective lyrics. The accompanying video is a self-guided journey traversing expansive waters, taking along a cactus for company. The album was unveiled in tandem with its introductory single and music video, “Seaforth,” under the direction of Jocelyn Anquetil. A decade after his initial album, Space Heavy signifies a return to the hauntingly ethereal sonic world that Archy, aka King Krule, has spent years cultivating.
Space Heavy is an assembly of 15 riveting tracks, carefully penned between 2020 and 2022, while Archy was shuttling between London and Liverpool. Archy’s exploration of the theme of “the space between” becomes evident in this work; the undefined void occupied by aspirations of love and narratives of missed connections and inevitable loss in the universe’s grand scheme. The album reveals King Krule’s progression over the years, presenting a multifaceted body of work that unfolds new facets with each subsequent play.
