Olamide Reaches Milestone As The Only African Rapper To Reach High Peak On UK Album Chart

With the release of Unruly, his 10th studio album, Olamide has smashed the previous mark for African rappers on the UK albums chart. Olamide Baddo, one of the most consistent rappers in the Nigerian entertainment industry, continues to dominate the Afrobeats discussion with his outputs as he rides the waves of his chart-topping most recent album, released on August 9.

Olamide Adedeji, better known as Olamide Baddo, is a multi-award-winning rapper and performer. With the release of his most recent album, Unruly, he broke a milestone for African rappers by becoming the first and only rapper from the continent to reach a high peak on the UK Top Albums list.

The rapper’s recently released project, Unruly, made history by becoming the first and only African musician to reach the top four on the UK’s Apple Music Top Albums chart. One of the numerous records the music entrepreneur established with this project was that it was the first album by an African rapper to peak in the top 10 of the US Apple Music Top Albums chart. On August 9, 2023, the rapper had a listening party for his friends and followers to commemorate the release of his album. Some of the most prominent personalities in the entertainment world were there to celebrate, so it was a star-studded affair.

The rapper’s Unruly album deviates from expectations, and he also hinted that it wouldn’t be like his prior endeavours. It received a warm reception, as it immediately rose to the top-selling rap album on Nigeria’s digital streaming service. Over a million streams were received by Spotify on the first day following its debut.
