Pacesetter : Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ Breaks Afrobeats Record On YouTube
By surpassing all other Afrobeats music videos on YouTube in terms of views, Rema’s “Calm Down” has created history. The lead song from Rema’s debut album, “Raves & Roses,” was released on February 11, 2022. Since its release, the music has had enormous global success, amplified by the remix featuring Selena Gomez.
The Afrobeats song “Calm Down” became the quickest to gain 100 million views in less than three months. Following the Selena Gomez remix, which saw the song peak at No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100, the song also received praise from other countries.
A few weeks after reaching 300 million views, the video eclipsed CKay’s “Love Nwantiti” to become the most-watched Nigerian music video on YouTube. Then, on Sunday, January 29, 2023, the leading music chart publication TurnTable Charts broke the news.
With around 23,000 views more than ‘Love Nwantiti,’ ‘Calm Down’ broke the previous Afrobeats record.

Rema had made the 2022 “Obama Playlist” alongside other Afrobeat powerhouses like Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Tems. Burna’s “Last Last,” Ayra’s ” Rush,” and Rema’s ” Calm Down” were among the songs included on the coveted list.
Recently, The Mavin Records Rema’s well-liked music video for “Calm Down,” featuring Selena Gomez, was nominated for “Best Music Video (Socially Voted Category)” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2023.
