South African Police Detain Seven Persons In Connection With AKA’s Murder

In connection with the death of renowned rapper and producer AKA, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has detained seven persons.

AKA, who was born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes on January 28, 1988, died from gunshot wounds on February 10, 2023, in the KwaZulu-Natal province’s port town of Durban. There were two gunmen in front of the Wish restaurant on Florida Road, and they killed him and his companion Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Nobody had been arrested in the wake of the killings, according to the police, who also stated that detectives were examining and questioning a large number of witnesses and reviewing CCTV material. The evening of February 27 saw the arrest of six individuals, while the morning of February 28 saw the arrest of one. The 29th of February is anticipated to see the court appearance of all the accused.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal police, stated that one of the suspects was detained in April of last year in relation to another offense. He added that since then, police have found four cars, guns they think were used in the murder, and bullets they found at the scene.

Alongside Vice Versa and Greyhound, AKA formed the rap group Entity during his high school years. Top local performers including Nasty C, Anatii, Khuli Chana, K.O., Yanga, Da L.E.S, ProKid, and JR were among those he collaborated with.
